What is a dog park?
The ideal dog park is a designated, fenced-in area where people can bring their dogs to play and run off-leash. A dog park can be a great place to share and distribute information pertaining to dog care and training. For dog owners with limited mobility, it can be a place to socialize with other dog owners and exercise their dogs.

Why have a dog park?
A report on off-leash dog parks by Portland Parks and Recreation states that "There is a newly identified parks user group: Dogs and their owners. This user group is drawn to parks for open space, fresh air, exercise and socialization for themselves and their pets. Coming to a park is their chosen form of recreation, much the same as jogging or biking. They are legitimate park users."

Balduck Park
Located on Chandler Park Drive. Exit I-94 at Moross, go east to Chandler Park Drive, turn right and look for park a few blocks down on the right. Hours: dawn to dusk. Groups of dog lovers usually gather between 4-6pm. Has enclosed wooded trail, large field, lots of trees.		    
GROSSE POINTE SHORES
 Located within the city's park at Vernier and Lake Shore Drive, next to the soccer fields. Dog park is very small and is for residents only. There is a fee to enter the city park.

 Located between Milk River and the Ford Estate inside the city's Lake Front Park. Residents only. Apply for an annual Dog Park Pass at the office of Lake Front Park.

Cady Street
Dog park is available for Northville residents in the downtown area.

Community Park
A 4-acre dog park is located on Beck Road between 5 Mile and 6 Mile. Park is open to nonresidents. To obtain a park pass, users must attend a mandatory education session.

Pleasant Ridge Dog Run logoPLEASANT RIDGE
Directions: Take I-696 to Woodward, go south on Woodward to first turnaround, then head north on Woodward to Sylvan. Turn right on Sylvan, then left on Indiana and take until it deadends. Area is about a half mile long by 150 feet wide. Benches, limited parking, water fountain. Registration for park pass card and fee required. Yearly fee is $25 for residents, $60 for non-residents, with proof of a current rabies vaccination, valid for remainder of year.

ROYAL OAK
NEW - Fenced-in dog park at Mark Twain Park, Campbell Rd., S. of 14 Mile to open this May 2009. Fees: $40 a year for residents, $65 for nonresidents, and a one-time $10 charge to all for key fobs to operate computerized gates.

Statler-Maloof Dog Park (formerly Brys Park)
Dog park located on the SE corner of Brys Park at Brys and Harper and recently enlarged to 1.3 acres. Participants must buy electronic key fob to access. Annual pass costs $20 for residents and $30 for nonresidents. For more info call 586-445-5350.

Anne Fracassa Memorial Dog Park
On the south side of 12 Mile, just west of Van Dyke, at the end of Pauline Street. Open 7am - dusk.

Located at Hillcrest Park on the NE side of Grand Rapids, at the intersection of Lyon and Benjamin NE (upper portion of Fuller Park). There is parking available at Hillcrest as well as plenty of street parking, or you can park your car at Fuller Park and walk to Hillcrest. Mapquest.

Requires membership (except on Sundays), but offers water, mud, dirt, trails, a clubhouse, benches, self-serve dog wash, and lots, lots more on this 20-acre dog park. Requires proof of vaccinations. Be sure to check the website for info before you go. Location: 3895 Cherry Lane SE. Directions: Take I-96E to Cascade Rd., go east to 36th St, turn L onto 36th, go east until you get to Cherry Lane, turn R, head south to Shaggy Pines (it's pretty hard to miss).

Located on Ottawa Beach Road, on the Ottawa County Fair Grounds property. Double-gated entrance with both a large and small dog section. During the summer months there is running water for the dogs.
